The mayor of New Rochelle has taken to the national airwaves to reiterate the importance of finding the right balance between concern and common sense as residents enter the weekend.

Mayor Noam Bramson appeared earlier today on CNN's "New Day."

Bramson says there is no need to panic. "If you are a healthy adult, sensible social distancing is adequate. You don't want to withdraw entirely from the life and commerce of your community because that creates its own problems. I think we all understand that if risk avoidance is taken to an extreme, then it can be debilitating and self-defeating.”

He added that senior citizens, those with a compromised immune system or other underlying illnesses, should avoid any kind of public contact as much as possible.
