Peekskill and Lakeland school districts close for deep cleaning of schools and buses

Posted: Updated:

More schools across the Hudson Valley are shutting down because of coronavirus concerns.

Officials with Peekskill City schools says they will close so that they can deep clean of all buildings and buses. The closure comes after several students within one family have been ordered to quarantine

Also, the 'Music in Our Schools Month' concert scheduled for Thursday has been postponed.

School officials want to stress that there is no confirmed case of coronavirus in the district.

Schools in the Lakeland School District are also closed today. The district serves the towns of Yorktown, Cortlandt and Somers in Westchester County; and the towns of Carmel, Philipstown, and Putnam Valley in Putnam County.

School Superintendent George Stone issued a statement saying, in part, "Out of an abundance of caution, all Lakeland Schools will be closed...while we do not have a confirmed case in our district we have been advised to close because of a direct connection.”
He went on to say, "While we are closed....we will be scrubbing and sanitizing all buildings and all buses."
