Environmental police are monitoring flareups near Breakneck Ridge in Dutchess County, a day after a massive brush fire ravaged more than 100 acres of the popular hiking trail.
Police say the fire broke out Monday just after 1:30 p.m. near the towns of Fishkill and Philipstown.
The fire came close to Metro-North's Hudson line tracks and delayed service for several hours.
The fire also incinerated dozens of cars left behind by hikers in a parking area in Fishkill, before it jumped across Route 9D and spread up a hillside toward Breakneck Ridge.
All hiking trails in Hudson Highlands State Park, where Breakneck Ridge is located, remain closed.
