To travel or not? Residents weigh vacation plans amid coronavirus outbreak

Posted: Updated:

Some residents are wondering if they should cancel upcoming trips amid coronavirus concerns, while others say they are going through with their travel plans.

Eric Gerpe booked a vacation to Italy almost a year ago, before fears of the coronavirus came out.

Gerpe says no matter what, he'll be getting on that flight.

"People are just making people paranoid, just like when it snows," Gerpe said.

Orange County travel agent Bonnie Galloway says this is the worst possible time for fear of a virus spreading for the travel industry.

"My bookings have gone down about 95%," said Galloway.

Susan Youchah said she and her husband usually go on a cruise this time of year, but she's glad they didn't book one this year. Her husband has Parkinson's disease and has a compromised immune system.

Galloway says the best thing to do if you do plan to travel now is to go through a travel agent. That way if you need to cancel, change plans or deal with any problems while on your trip, you have someone in the U.S. who can work on your behalf.
