Coronavirus cases reported in 3 Hudson Valley counties, most in WC

The number of coronavirus cases in New York has reached triple digits, with people from three Hudson Valley counties testing positive for the virus.

There are 12 new cases of the coronavirus in Westchester, which brings the county total up to 82. That’s the most of any county in New York. There were 105 cases confirmed across the state as of Sunday.

Ulster County has its first positive test, and Rockland has two cases of the virus confirmed.

The cases in Westchester and Rockland are tied to the initial exposure in New Rochelle, officials say.

On Sunday, the Rockland Health Department said its two cases stem from a pair of caterers who worked at an event at Young Israel of New Rochelle, the modern-Orthodox Jewish synagogue where the initial outbreak began.

The two continued to work after the exposure before going to a local hospital.

The county says anyone who visited 150 Remsen Ave. in Monsey on Feb. 28 and 29, and the Atrium Ballroom at 401 New York-59 in Monsey on March 2 should contact their doctor because of a potential exposure.

State leaders are now telling people to avoid all mass gatherings.

"We want to reduce as much as possible situations creating density. It’s the density, the proximity that we're trying to reduce. Private businesses can help, citizens can help in their day-to-day life,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said at a news conference on Sunday..

The governor also said New York needs more federal resources in order to get ahead of the virus spreading.
