Officials: 1 person dead after being struck by several cars on New York State Thruway

One person is dead after being struck on the New York State Thruway early Sunday morning in Orange County.

It happened just before 1:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes just before Newburgh Exit 17.

Officials say the northbound lanes of the thruway were shut down for much of the night at Exit 16 in Harriman.

They say the male victim may have been struck multiple times by several vehicles.

There is no word why he was on the highway.
