A man is dead after a bizarre incident in Newburgh.

Police say they responded to the report of a larceny at a gas station on Broadway around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers say a clerk accused 28-year-old Kyrell Saunders of stealing a candy bar.

That's when Saunders left, began walking towards Route 9W and attempted to slow an 18-wheeler traveling down the road.

Police say he then tried to jump on the side of the truck and fell underneath the trailer portion.

Saunders was pronounced dead at the scene.
