Westchester County Legislator David Tubiolo announced he will no longer be a part of the Republican Party at a special news conference in White Plains.

Tubiolo wants voters to know he is not trying to "demonize Republicans," in any way. However, he felt it was time to make his political decision official.
"Any candidate is better than the president currently. So I would say any of the candidates currently, up until April, whoever's left is a wonderful choice and I believe they will be able to beat Donald Trump," he said.

Tubiolo showed Democratic political leaders that he's serious by signing the official form making the political party switch official.

The Westchester Republican Committee, was not happy with the decision that Tubiolo says was 2-years in the making.
GOP Chairman Doug Colety issuing a statement that says, in part: "David Tubiolo's party switch is a betrayal of the voters who in November elected a Republican with Republican values to serve as their County Legislator. One month into his two-year term, Tubiolo has abandoned the people and principles that brought him to victory. His action is a sad example of a politician gaming the system to advance his personal ambitions."
While county Republicans may be reeling in the wake of Tubiolo's announcement, Democrats are reveling in the history-making moment.
"This is the first time in history that we have not had a Republican on the County Board of Legislators. Did you hear that? Not a Republican on the County Board of Legislators!," says Board of Legislators Chairman Ben Boykin
News 12 is told Tubiolo's party switch will allow him to meet a Feb. 14 deadline making him a candidate in the Democratic Presidential primary in April.

The sudden switch leaves Conservative Margaret Cunzio as the only person representing the minority caucus.
