Dutchess County extends liquor store hours

Dutchess County customers can purchase liquor until 9 p.m. during the week as of Jan. 15.
The New York State Liquor Authority voted unanimously to extend hours from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Boutique Wine & Spirits owner Paige Flori led the effort and believes the bigger picture is about supporting the local economy.
"Especially here in Fishkill where they can go south to Putnam, or west over to Orange County. So, we keep the tax revenue here in Dutchess County, which is important as a Dutchess County resident. I like to keep the tax revenue here," says Flori.
News 12 is told the vote also applies to holidays, including Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, New Year’s Day and Labor Day.
Some business owners aren’t necessarily in favor of the choice, noting the later hours may not help their business.
"We're definitely in the middle. We want to see what other stores are doing. If all other stores are going to stay open until 9 o’clock. I would say we have to stay open for the business itself," says Ishan Singh, manager of Liquorama Wine Cellars.
