The family of a fallen Jersey City police detective received a new vehicle Friday thanks to a Pompton Plains dealership and a nonprofit organization.
Detective Joseph Seals was killed in the line of duty after getting into a shootout with two gunmen on Dec. 10.
Route 23 Honda in Pompton Plains gave Seals’ family a brand-new minivan. It was presented to the 200 Club of Bergen County – a nonprofit group that supports the families of fallen police officers.
Members of the group reached out to Performance Auto Group – the company that owns the dealership – asking if they would be willing to help the Seals family.
"In talking with her, we realized with four young kids at home her current vehicle was not going to work,” said Jack Terhune with the 200 Club.
"It’s got a power rear hatch because she said her children are involved in a lot of sports. She's a soccer mom,” says Performance Auto Group owner Kevin DiPano.
News 12 New Jersey is told that detectives from the Jersey City Police Department went with Mrs. Seals to pick up the minivan.
