White Plains rings in New Year in grand style

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of revelers rang in the New Year in grand style in White Plains.

The city's annual ball drop in the heart of the downtown rocked with live bands, a DJ, confetti, and fireworks.

City officials say they expected as many as 30,000 people for the celebration.

The night got off to a soggy start with a little bit of rain but that cleared and a crisp, cool evening was enjoyed by party-goers.

There was a heavy police presence throughout the downtown area and the event space was only accessible from four gated entries, all with metal detectors.

Once inside, revelers danced the night away.

For the 16th year, Heineken USA partnered with the city to offer free rides to people of legal drinking age to deter people from drinking and driving.
