AAA: 115 million Americans expected to be traveling through New Year's DayPosted: Updated:
People across the Hudson Valley got an early start to their holiday travels before the expected heavy traffic rush this afternoon.
Only a few creatures were stirring at the rest stop in Ardsley early Christmas Eve morning. They say they wanted to beat the other commuters.
"We want to beat the traffic and we want to get to our destination as soon as possible," says Michelle Whitlock, of Babylon.
Traffic is expected to pick up later in the day with more than 115 million Americans expected to travel starting from last Saturday until New Year's Day, according to AAA. That is a 4% increase from last year.
Experts believe the day after Christmas is the worst day to travel in the area. Traffic delays could be three times more than usual.
