Rockland digs out after first major storm of the season

Posted: Updated:

Rockland community members spent Tuesday digging out after the first major storm of the season.

The wet, slushy mess Mother Nature dumped on the Hudson Valley left hundreds in Rockland without power Tuesday and neighbors with cleaning up to do.

In Nyack, people sprinkled salt on sidewalks and scraped off cars. While sidewalks in Downtown Nyack were a sheet of ice, the roads in Rockland were in pretty good shape.

Shell station workers on 9W in Nyack, say the white stuff is helping bring in some green, as customers were coming in and buying rock salt.

O & R officials say power was restored to most of those Rockland county customers by Tuesday afternoon.
