Yonkers to use 'Christmas' in tree lighting ceremony

The Yonkers' tree lighting ceremony will now have "Christmas" in the name.
The city hasn't included the word "Christmas" in the title of its annual holiday lighting event for years.
But that all changed at a city council meeting last night as the board unanimously approved a resolution to refer to the celebrations as "Christmas Tree Lightings."
The topic was raised by Council Member Anthony Merante, who is encouraging all of Yonkers' agencies to include the individual nature of the holiday in event names. He says it should be this way for all religious celebrations. "It's become a such an inclusive city that I think the time has come for us to give the respect to all the religions."
The lighting is set for next week in front of Yonkers City Hall.
