Undefeated New Rochelle HS football team advances in playoffs without head coach

New Rochelle High School's football team won their second playoff game without their head coach Saturday.
The team defeated Shenendehowa 24 to 17 in Middletown as protests continued over the reassignment of Coach Lou DiRienzo.
DiRienzo was reassigned last week for violating school policy. While the school has not released the exact details of the violation, DiRienzo's family says he helped a distressed relative, who is a student, leave school grounds.
The school's decision ignited unrest across the community. New Rochelle teachers were among those who rallied outside of city hall Friday.
Marchers in the New Rochelle Thanksgiving Parade Saturday held up signs that read "We Support Coach D."
Union leaders say the fight is about more than DiRienzo, but about due process rights they say are being violated by the district.
The district released a statement Friday denying that it violated due process and plan to meet with DiRienzo and union leaders Monday.
The Huguenots won their first playoff game last weekend against Proctor without DiRienzo.
