Beacon native student athlete shows support of Syracuse University protesters

A Syracuse University athlete from Beacon showed his support for student protesters.
A recent rash of hateful acts on the college campus prompted students protesting, and student athlete Elijah Hughes joined in the efforts.
Hughes created shirts saying, #NotAgainSU, which he and his team wore before the start of a game this week.
“I talked to the team about it and they were all in. I laid it out for coach and he talked to whoever he had to and we made it happen,” says Hughes.
He adds, “We do whatever we can because it’s hard…at the end of the day we are all 18, 19, 20-year-old kids and we play basketball so, if we can bring the school together in any way we can, we are going to try to."
Nearly 10 hateful incidents at the college have been reported over the last two weeks.
