Fire officials: Fire erupts at 4,000-square-foot house in Rye

Fire officials say a fire erupted at a home in Rye Friday morning.
They say the fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. at 6 Hunter Lane, a 4,000-square-foot home. It took about 2 1/2 hours to get under control.
Investigators say the fire started in the basement and quickly traveled up the walls. They say crews were forced out of the home, and had to fight the flames from the outside because the floor collapsed.
Fire officials say a portion of the roof is gone and the inside of the home was destroyed. Firefighters tore shingles off what was left of the roof to release hot spots.
They say an elderly couple in their 80s live in the home and suffered minor injuries while possibly trying to evacuate. They were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Harrison, Mamaroneck and Larchmont fire departments also responded to the fire.
