Officials ramp up search for missing Newburgh teacher

Posted: Updated:

Authorities are ramping up their search for any sign of a missing woman who was last seen Nov. 1 in Newburgh.

Police confirmed Monday that the FBI has joined the investigation to find 36-year-old Jessica Lopez.

It's been 10 days, and there is still no sign of the former Newburgh teacher.

Lopez was last seen with a friend at Chili's in Newburgh on Route 300.

Her car was found abandoned days later, less than 2 miles away at Showtime Cinemas - with no trace of the 5-foot-3-inch, 135-pound woman.

Police are being tight-lipped about any possible clues, including an alleged 2012 assault that Lopez posted about on Facebook in which she claimed she was beaten by two people and left in a coma.

Police confirm the FBI Safe Streets Task Force has now joined the investigation, as friends and community activists are taking to social media to plead for information leading to her safe return.

Police aren't commenting on whether or not Lopez's assault has anything to do with her disappearance, but say they are looking into all past and present information as part of the investigation.
