Ex-Department of Corrections captain sentenced for beating inmate at Rikers Island

A former Department of Corrections captain was sentenced Thursday for beating an inmate at Rikers Island.
Sandy Arkhurst was also sentenced for falsifying records. The incident that occurred back in 2016 left an inmate with multiple bruises and broken teeth.
The former captain then lied about the incident in his paperwork. District Attorney Darcel Clark said Arkhurst was sentenced to five years' probation for second-degree assault and first-degree falsifying business records.
