A funeral was held this morning for a Yonkers firefighter who died of a 9/11-related illness.

John Peteani passed away in the comfort of his home Sunday. He started his career in 2000 with the Yonkers Fire Department.

“Like all those before him, John fought like a Warrior against the toxic beast which continues to attack Yesterday's Heroes with a vengeance,” said John Feal of FealGood Foundation on Facebook.

 A funeral Mass was held at St. John the Baptist Church.

Peteani’s family is asking donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers foundation. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
