Briarcliff dentist has sweet solution for leftover Halloween candy

A Briarcliff Manor dentist has a solution to the extra Halloween candy around the house.
Dr. Michael Teitlebaum has been sending donated treats to troops for 17 years.

"I get the candy away from the kids ...and we ship it off to the troops overseas,” he says.

Teitlebaum has been collecting candy donations for soldiers since the year after the 9/11 terror attacks.
Donors have dropped off candy in his office for over a decade.
“That first year, we thought we had tons of candy we got over 100…now we get about 800 to 1,000 pounds every year,” he says.
When the candy mountain reaches its peak, the dentist and his staff pack up an entire car and deliver it to Camp Smith.
The candy is split and sent off to members of the New York Army National Guard.
Dr. Teitlebaum says he will be accepting donations until the day before Thanksgiving.
Teitlebaum says he sometimes gives the kids a toothbrush or dollar coins in exchange for the candy.
