A Ramapo woman received a text asking her to sign up for a service called Mystery Secret Shoppers, a service that allows people to get paid for shopping at stores and reviewing their experience.

Police say she later received a package in the mail with instructions and a cashier's check for nearly $2,000.

The woman says she was told to use the money to purchase Target and eBay gift cards and then send those codes to the person she'd been texting.

The woman told police that after sending the codes to the gift cards, her bank then notified her that the check had bounced.

Ramapo police are asking anyone who may be a victim of this scam to give them a call immediately at 845-367-2400.
