Police say two children were rushed to the hospital after a car hit them as they tried to cross a busy street in Greenburgh.
Police say the 14-year-old and 11-year-old victims were crossing North Central Avenue at the corner of Lawton when they were hit Friday night.
The 14-year-old was critically injured but is in stable condition. The 11-year-old is also stable and being treated at Westchester County Medical Center.
Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner says the town has been working to make North Central Avenue a safer place for pedestrians. New sidewalks were just installed.
"There's a lot more pedestrian safety initiatives that have to be taken. Not only on Central Avenue but all over Greenburgh,” Feiner said. “I've asked the state Department of Transportation to take a look at this location that's near a major church. We could have better lighting. There may be other safety initiatives that the state could take on Central Avenue.”
News 12 was told the 28-year-old driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call police at 914-989-1725.
