Berkeley College threw a bone to the K-9 unit at the White Plains Police Department Tuesday by donating two bulletproof vests.
K-9s Mickey and Leo received the vests as gifts from Berkeley College in White Plains. They were custom-made and cost about $1,000 each.
White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says the gifts are priceless to their department due to the danger that the K-9 unit faces.
"We think of them as part of our family, so we want to protect them the same way we protect our police officers,” says Chong.
It’s the second time the college has donated vests to the department. The first pair was donated eight years ago when the K-9 unit was first created.
