Police: Man fatally struck by train in Port Jervis trying to save dog

Officials say 52-year-old John Evans was hit by a westbound train Tuesday night.

Police have released the name of the man who was hit and killed by a train in Port Jervis.
Officials say 52-year-old John Evans was hit by a westbound train Tuesday night near the intersection of Jersey and Pennsylvania avenues.
They believe Evans was trying to keep his dog from running on the tracks when he was accidentally struck and killed.
The incident remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority police and the City of Port Jervis Police Department.
