Police are learning more about a dog attack that left a Pleasant Valley woman dead inside her home Saturday afternoon, but some questions remain unanswered.
Officials say 67-year-old Arlene Renna was found unconscious on her living room floor when her husband came home Saturday at 4 p.m. State police and Pleasant Valley EMS were dispatched to the scene, but couldn’t save her.
Police say she was inside her home on Barkit Kennel Road alone at the time. They say her injuries show signs of a dog attack.
News 12 was told that the couple had two coonhounds -- a redbone and a black and tan. According to the American Kennel Club, a redbone coonhound can weigh between 45 and 70 pounds. They are typically even-tempered and mellow in a home setting.
The black and tan coonhound is quite bigger, reaching 65 to 110 pounds. They are also friendly and easygoing but can be too big and athletic for some pet owners.
Both dogs were secured by the Dutchess County SPCA. They had no comment about the incident.
Neighbors say they never saw the dogs act in a violent manner. Police say they found no signs of foul play.
The fate of the dogs will be determined by a court judge.
