Police: At least 1 person bitten by raccoon in Port Chester

Posted: Updated:

Police say at least one person was attacked by a raccoon in Westchester Sunday.

Port Chester police used Facebook to quickly get the word out that one or two people were bitten by a raccoon near Hobart and Halstead avenues. The area is located next to Recreation Park and down the road from Lyon Park.

Officials say they are still investigating what exactly happened and how many people were hurt, but are urging residents to stay away from all raccoons since they are wild animals and carry diseases.

The Health Department is expected to investigate further on Monday.
