Crews battle fire at Croton-on-Hudson condo complex

Posted: Updated:

Fire crews responded to the scene of a fire at a townhouse in a condo complex in Croton-On-Hudson Saturday morning.

The flames broke out shortly before 8 a.m. at the Half Moon Bay Condo Complex.

Video from the scene shows that the fire tore through the townhouse.

Units from all over Westchester and Rockland responded to the scene.

Officials say the three-alarm fire started in an unoccupied four-bedroom unit under construction.

Chief Chris Colombo with the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department says they had to battle the gas-fed flames quickly because the wind coming off the river posed the risk of spreading the flames into the attached units.

The neighboring unit only has water and smoke damage, but the unit where it all started is shriveled up and gray --appearing to be a total loss.

No residents were injured, but two firefighters from Croton-on-Hudson and Montrose had to be treated for burns.
Officials say the cause is still under investigation, but based on what witnesses told them, they believe the fire started on the first floor.

They say it may be a few more days until the people who live in the neighboring unit are given the all-clear to move back inside their home.
