Hudson Valley restaurateur works to restore 9/11 fireboat into museum

An FDNY fireboat is being restored in Rockland County so that it can be turned into a Sept. 11 museum.
The boat, which resides in North River Shipyard in Nyack, hasn’t been in service for years, but was used to save lives on Sept. 11.
Eight years following 9/11, the ship was also used to tow US Airways Flight 1549 out of the Hudson.
The ship was auctioned off and bought by Hudson Valley restaurateur Edward Taylor, who is working with others to turn the boat into a museum before 2019’s 9/11 anniversary.
Taylor said he helped start a nonprofit to restore the boat. The McKean Preservation Project needs $150,000 to finish the job. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation already donated $10,000.
When the boat become a museum, it will visit towns along the lower Hudson, and those involved with the nonprofit say admission will be free and open to the public.
