Westchester hikes up sales tax by 1%

Shopping in Westchester is about to get more expensive.
A new sales tax will go into effect tomorrow for 41 municipalities in the county.
The Westchester County Board of Legislators voted unanimously to enact the 1% sales tax hike earlier this month.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer says the increase will allow the county to give property owners some relief.
A percentage will also be given back to local governments and school districts.
