Mayor Richard Thomas expressed his condolences, saying an attack on one person in the Mount Vernon community is an attack on all people in Mount Vernon.
"Our tightknit community rejects this targeted, vicious attack and will tirelessly work together with the Mount Vernon Police Department to swiftly deliver tough justice to those responsible," Thomas said in a statement.
Community activist and leader of Save Mount Vernon, Jesse Van Lew, says killings are becoming far to frequent and they need to be stopped.
