A 26-year-old New Rochelle graduate is set to take a seat on the school board come July.
William Ianuzzi is one of two newly elected to the board. Ianuzzi helps run the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle, a place where he spent his childhood.
"I always tell the kids here the saddest thing in life is wasted potential, and I really want to make sure that every kid is getting equitable access to opportunities and programs to help them succeed in life," says Ianuzzi.
Ianuzzi admits he didn't think he was going to win, but 1,600 votes later and the youngest candidate came out on top.
"We need to bring a focus back to our kids' education," says Ianuzzi.
School board president Jeffrey Hastie says the board will continue to move the district in a positive direction. The other new member is Valarie Williams.
"They'll bring other things to the table that others don't have, so it feels good to me," says Hastie. "We have nine folks and they all represent different parts of the town."
