MOUNT VERNON -

Police say they're still searching for a man who escaped custody while headed towards the Westchester County jail Saturday.

They say Isaiah Washington, 22, was being taken from the youth shelter program to the jail when he asked employees to loosen his handcuffs.

New Rochelle police say he then slipped out of the handcuffs, opened the minivan door and ran off.

Residents told News 12 they didn't hear about the incident or even know there was a youth shelter nearby.

Pelham police say they're coordinating with the NYPD in their search.
