Police: Man possibly tried to lure young girl in Port Chester

Police have stepped up patrols around Port Chester elementary schools, including John F. Kennedy Magnet School, after a possible luring incident.
Police say a 10-year-old girl was walking along a street in Port Chester just a few blocks away from school Tuesday morning when a man in a black SUV waved at her.
The girl took off running.

Port Chester police say they don’t know if the man was just waving at her to cross the street, but they are taking the report seriously.
"We're trying to determine one, who that person is and two, what their intentions were,” says Port Chester Police Chief Richard Conway. ”We would rather get to the bottom of it, than to have someone out there luring children."

Police describe the driver as a Hispanic male in his 30s, with a medium build, light-brown hair and wearing a gray baseball cap.

Police suggest kids should walk in groups to school or with an adult or older sibling. They also say this little girl did the right thing by running and reporting it.
There was also another possible luring attempt of a child in Nyack on Tuesday.
