A 2-year-old and a 3-year-old nearly drowned Monday in a pool outside a home on Sydell Lane in Spring Valley.

Ramapo Police Chief Brad Weidel says a family member found the girls in the pool, semiconscious and not breathing.

He says first responders resuscitated the girls before they were rushed to Westchester Medical Center.
Police are now trying to determine how the girls got inside the fenced-in pool and why they weren't being supervised at the time.

Those who live inside the home told News 12 off camera that more than one family lives there and that the girls were cousins, watched by their grandmother and one of the girl's mothers at the time of the incident.
Two other children, ages 6 and 7, also reportedly live inside but were not home at the time.

Police say they expect both girls will survive.
