Undocumented immigrant takes plea deal in arrest that sparked protestPosted: Updated:
An undocumented immigrant living in Larchmont was sentenced Friday to 90 days in jail.
Carlos Duque pleaded guilty to having a fake driver’s license during a traffic stop in Pelham Manor.
During his first court hearing, ICE agents appeared in the courtroom, which renewed calls for state lawmakers to sign two pieces of legislation. The Protect Our Courts Act would prohibit ICE arrests in state courts, and the Green Light Bill would allow undocumented immigrants to get their own driver’s licenses.
Last month, state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi and Rep. Eliot Engel joined Duque's supporters protesting outside of Pelham court.
