Free vaccine clinic held in Suffern church amid measles outbreak

SUFFERN -

A free vaccine clinic was held in a Suffern church Friday as health officials continue to urge people to get vaccinated during the measles outbreak.

Church leaders from Christ Episcopal of Ramapo say they reached out to county health officials and asked if they could host a clinic in their church.

County officials say many people who frequent the church's soup kitchen and thrift store are from the immigrant community and may not have been immunized in their home countries.

The clinic was held while free lunch was offered in the soup kitchen.

County officials say nearly 21,000 people have been vaccinated since the outbreak began in October, which is nearly 6% of Rockland County's total population.
