A student allegedly entered Poughkeepsie High School Tuesday with a loaded handgun in a backpack.

Poughkeepsie police officers say a school guard secured the weapon and brought it to a nearby office.

The student was taken into police custody.

Police and school officials found no further threats to the school or its students and staff.
