Rye Playland is officially open for its 91st season.
It was a bumpy ride to this point. Westchester County Executive George Latimer tore up a 30-year $30 million contract with Standard Amusement, the management company that was supposed to take over running the park, insisting it was a bad deal for taxpayers.
Standard Amusements threatened legal action and implied the park isn't safe.
However, county officials say Playland is safe, and
gave the media and members of the Legislature a tour of the park to prove it.
