An Ossining family is hopeful that Gov. Andrew Cuomo will sign 'Dream's Law' into effect, ensuring that no one would have to endure what they did.

Dream Shepard, 14, and her family are getting closer to their goal of having Dream's Law become a reality. The state Assembly and Senate have already passed the bill.

Dream's Law would ensure that patients discharged from a hospital with a catheter inserted into a large vein would have continued care by a home health care professional.

Diana Lemon, Dream's mom, says when Dream had a stem cell transplant in 2014 to battle sickle cell disease she was forced to care for her daughter herself because her insurance didn't cover home care. Lemon says she was nervous because she wasn't properly trained to care for her daughter.

"No patient, no caregiver should be put in a predicament like this where they feel that their child or loved one will essentially die if they get an infection from the line at their own hands," says Lemon.

If signed by the governor, Dream's Law would immediately take effect.
