The Town of Greenburgh was awarded $1 million in funding through the Federal Highway Administration to extend the sidewalk along Hillside Avenue.
It is part of $24.2 million in funds going toward 11 different municipalities in the mid-Hudson region. The funding will support bicycle and pedestrian enhancements with the goal of improving transportation and quality of life.
Over the past few years, the Town of Greenburgh says it's built more than three miles of new sidewalk, making it safer for pedestrians to get from point A to point B without having to walk in the street.
Town Supervisor Paul Feiner says the Hillside Avenue project, along with other projects in the works, will bring that total to six new miles of sidewalks. He says the sidewalks will make the area safer and "much more pedestrian friendly."
