The New Rochelle family of Fernando Izazaga returned Saturday to the very location where their brother, son and nephew was struck by a hit-and-run driver on March 31.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Huegenot Street and Memorial Highway.
Fernando's family says he was walking back home from his girlfriend’s home when he was hit by a car. He was taken to an area hospital with serious head trauma and passed away 12 days later.
Police say 27-year-old Johnny Gialanella, of Yonkers, was charged with vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
The family described Fernando as being “full of energy” who’s life was cut off too short. They are urging all motorists to think twice before drinking and driving.
A GoFundMe page has already reached its goal of $15,000.
