Anti-drug groups fight to re-claim 4/20

People came together in Valhalla on Thursday to fight marijuana use.
Young people, parents, and professionals gathered at the Westchester Medical Center to re-claim April 20 as an 'anti-drug day.'
The term “420” was apparently coined as a code word by high school students in California in 1971 as a reference going to get high at 4.20 p.m. Since then, the day 4/20 has become known as a day to celebrate smoking pot.
At the event organized by Westchester Coalition for Drug and Alcohol Free Youth, participants say they want to turn 4/20 into a positive day that focuses on preventing substance use.
The goal is to educate teens against the use of marijuana, and its connection to opioid addiction. "We are here in honor of the majority of young people who are making healthy decisions and not using marijuana. We are reclaiming 4/20…celebrating youth who are making smart decisions," says Judith Mezey, student assistance services corporation assistant director for community-based programs.
