About a dozen FDNY firefighters from Ladder Company 27 in the Bronx made their way to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware Thursday to receive the casket of fellow firefighter and Marine Christopher Slutman.
The young father was killed Monday after a roadside bomb exploded near his military convoy north of Kabul in Afghanistan.
Two other Marines were killed in the explosion.
Slutman was a staff sergeant in the Marines and was a decorated 15-year veteran of the FDNY.  He won a medal for saving a woman from a burning building back in 2014.
He is only the fourth firefighter to die post 9/11 in active duty.
News 12 was told that he was supposed return home to his family at the end of the month.

Slutman leaves behind a wife and three children.
