A quick-thinking CVS employee likely saved a woman from being scammed out of $3,000.

Clarkstown police says the woman tried to purchase $3,000 worth of gift cards at a CVS which caught the attention of the cashier. The cashier then called the police.

They say the caller told the woman he was a Social Security Administration agent and told her to buy the gift cards to keep her Visa card from being canceled.

Officer Jacqueline Kennedy says police have seen an increase in scams and have been warning businesses about it.

Sen. David Carlucci says he has a bill in the Legislature that would require telephone companies to provide a service to automatically block scam calls.

CVS says in a statement that they require ID for anyone who purchases more than $300 worth in gift cards and they have a daily limit on gift card purchases to $2,000.
