Police: No gunman found at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville
Police descended on New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville Sunday night following reports of a man with a gun, but police say no gunman was found and no shots were fired.
Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale says the call came in just before 9 p.m. from a nursing supervisor that two patients on the sixth floor reported seeing a man carrying a shotgun and he was walking towards the elevators.
The hospital went into lockdown as dozens of police and first responders from several agencies, including New York State police and Westchester County police officers, swarmed Palmer Avenue.  After searching the building, having employees take shelter and reviewing security footage, police say they don't believe anyone with a weapon was inside the hospital.
Police do not believe it was a case of "swatting" nor was it a hoax on the part of the patients. He said investigators interviewed them and they truly thought they saw a person carrying a gun.
They say surveillance tapes then helped them confirm that this was in fact a false alarm.  "We spent several hours examining video tape from surveillance cameras in the hospital, on the floor where the call came from, and those cameras confirmed that there was not an individual in the hospital armed with a long gun, shotgun, rifle or handgun," says Chief Satriale.
No injuries were reported and the hospital has been deemed safe.
