Retaining wall collapse forces building evacuation

About 30 people were evacuated from a Yonkers apartment building Wednesday night after a retaining wall collapsed, sending large pieces of concrete and even an SUV down the steep hill above the building.
Hoard Moodie says he heard it happening right on the other side of his house, located at 12A Landscape Ave.

“It was scary because I heard it and then I was looking outside and I looked out and my car was down the hill. Almost about to crash into another building or two,” he says.

Residents on Landscape and Bruce avenues are feeling the aftereffects. Moodie now has to fix his car and his family's home.
The residents in the building below were evacuated for safety.
The Yonkers Police Department, Fire Department and a tow truck were all called in to remove the vehicle and place caution tape around the area.
Even with all of the cleanup, Moodie and his neighbors agree that things could have been much worse.

“What can you say? No one was hurt. A car you can always replace. You can always replace a deck. You can't replace a life,” says resident Lawrence Scerno.
