Longtime Westchester public servant Leonard Spano dies at 88

Former Westchester County Clerk Leonard Spano passed away Sunday morning at the age of 88.
Spano served as a county legislator for 22 years, and is credited for modernizing the clerk system when he served as Westchester County clerk from 1994 to 2005.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, at his second-term inauguration in 2016, credited his father for who he is today.
His cause of death hasn't been released, but his family says his passing was peaceful.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer released a statement saying in part, "He was a tireless public servant, and a true champion of the county. I served with him and he was a true gentleman…We as a county will always remember his work, and his kindness."
Spano leaves behind 16 children, 42 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
