New Rochelle residents fundraise in honor of woman found dead in suitcasePosted: Updated:
Residents of New Rochelle came together Saturday to support the family of Valerie Reyes, who was found dead in a suitcase Tuesday.
Valerie Reyes, 24, was found near the side of a Greenwich, Connecticut road after being reported missing since Jan. 29 to the New Rochelle Police Department.
Community member Jim Killoran, of the Fuller Center for Housing, has since set up collection boxes around New Rochelle for Reyes' funeral expenses.
“It's important for everyone to help this family because it's the worst nightmare anyone could go through,” says Killoran.

Killoran says that two of the boxes were placed at stores that Reyes and her mother frequently shopped at – the goodwill store and just down Main Street at CTown Supermarket.
CTown employees say many people have already donated in the hours the box has been there.
Residents have also set up a GoFundMe page that has already raised over $21,000.
Organizers of the fundraiser say all donations will be matched up to $500.
