Doctor: Shoveling snow during freezing temps can be dangerousPosted: Updated:
A Sleepy Hollow doctor warned that shoveling snow can take more of a toll than one may think.
Dr. Peter Lawrence of Phelps Hospital says minor strains in your back, knees and elbows aren't too worrisome, but if more severe symptoms develop it could mean a trip to the emergency room.
Lawrence advises people to never shovel heavy snow.
Doctors also say to make sure to bundle up when going outside to prevent frost bite, which stops blood from flowing to different parts of the body. A sign of frost bite is extremely white skin.
Dr. Lawrence says if you suspect you have frost bite, you should run your body under warm water and gradually increase the temperature.
